Towing companies use several different factors to determine the cost of your tow. Here, we'll break them down for you!
1. Distance - the number of miles from the pickup -> to the destination. Each Towing Company may charge a different fee per mileage, but they all use a similar system. On occasion (if your car is really far away) the towing company may also add in the mileage they would need to travel in order to get to the vehicle. This calculation is also determined by the price of fuel at the time of your service. As fuel prices increase, so will the per mile charge a tow company uses.
2. Size of Vehicle- Depending on the size and weight of the vehicle, a tow company has different prices per mileage.
3. Mobility- A major factor determining how much a tow is, would be the amount of mobility your vehicle has. Things such as wrecks/accidents, mechanical failures, flat tires, missing wheels, no keys (steering wheel locked), or the transmission not being able to go into neutral, are all things a towing company will use to determine the tow price.
4. Ease of Loading & Unloading- How accessible is the vehicle from the closest road or pavement? Does the vehicle have to be winched out? Are the doors locked and need to have a lockout service performed? These will be factored into the total price and typically have to be done on the spot by the driver and may not be included in the original estimate.
We hope this gives you a better understanding of how your tow could be priced. If you have any questions or are interested in our specials check out our other posts about Towing and Towing Near Me!
